As a committed healthcare professional, I regularly pursue advanced training to expand my skills and provide you with the most effective, evidence-informed care. Below you'll find details of my recent courses and how they enhance my practice. This also helps you better understand what osteopathy can achieve and how it works.
"Articular" refers to the joints of the body, which are critical points of interconnectivity between all other structures within the body. Joints receive and emit messages with other parts of the body, and are also connected to our emotions. This course helped me integrate all aspects of the joint including the nerve, artery, bone, capsule, and ligaments, as well as visceral and emotional connections.
A joint is so much more complex than a place where bones come together. It is comprised of multiple components – including bone, cartilage, muscles, tendons, nerves, and fluid – that when functioning properly, allow the joint to glide smoothly and pain-free. If one component becomes problematic, the entire joint begins to compensate and not function properly. This leads to dysfunction ranging from temporary pain to longer term damage.
All parts and systems within the body are interconnected – joints included – and when there is dysfunction in one place, other areas can be negatively impacted. This training allows me to address joint problems at their source, considering not just the mechanical aspects but also nerve supply, blood flow, and even emotional factors that can influence joint health.
This was the second course I completed in visceral manipulation. It focused on techniques for assessing and treating the organs within the abdomen. During the course, we worked mainly on the tissues that connect the organs to each other and to the musculoskeletal system.
Restrictions or tension in these visceral structures can develop after surgery, infection, or trauma. Using gentle manual techniques aims to restore normal mobility and balance within the body. The organs in our abdomen need to move freely – they shift with breathing, posture changes, and digestion. When this mobility is restricted, it can cause problems both locally and in distant areas of the body.
These techniques can be helpful for a variety of concerns, such as:
This course emphasized the deeper structures of the abdomen, including:
